A Message from Alex Amoroso
The Covid-19 epidemic has ravaged our city. It has exposed the last eight years of incompetence, mismanagement and corruption by the de Blasio administration and this City Council. They have driven New York City to the brink. Financial mismanagement has New York facing bankruptcy. Only 70% of NYC students graduate high school on time. Proficiency in Math and English is below 65% . The response to the corona virus pandemic and distribution of vaccinations has been a disaster leaving nearly 29.000 New Yorker’s dead and 33% of NYC small businesses permanently closed. Crime is surging. 447 New Yorker’s were murdered in 2020. More than one precious life lost needlessly each day. 60.000 New Yorker’s are homeless and thousands flee the city – and state every month in one of the largest interstate exoduses in American history. For to long the people of New York City have been burned by the political establishment. The career politicians promise and promise yet never deliver. It is time for change, because New York City is a city worth fighting for!
IT’S TIME TO FIGHT FOR!
- INCREASED FUNDING FOR NEW YORK CITY SCHOOLS
New York City student deserve access to the latest computer and tablet technology, school textbooks, and other essential school supplies. Funding for crucial repairs and renovations to our aging school buildings. Funding to provide a variety of extracurricular activities. Free after school tutoring and State Exams, SHSAT, SAT, ACT support. Enforcement of disciplinary measures. A pay raise for the thousands of Department of Education employees that work everyday to give our students a future.
- RELIABLE PUBLIC TRANSIT AND PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE
Increased MTA bus and LIRR frequency. Expansion of the Select Bus Service to high volume routes. Enforced bus lanes along key transit routes. Countdown clocks at bus stops. Expansion of the Subway to the city line. Construction of tram lines. Mending of roads, signs and sewers. A dedicated day each week for sanitation to collect items not typically collected in regular garbage. Revitalization and beautification of neighborhoods to attract new residents and investment.
- STREAMLINED COVID-19 RESPONSE
Increase the number of 24 hour test location sites. Distribute vaccines on a first come first serve basis via pharmacies and private healthcare providers. Launch a public health campaign informing New Yorker’s on the dangers and risk Covid-19. Allow the reopening of small businesses under strict guidelines to preserve the remaining small businesses facing financial ruin.
- COMBATING WASTE AND CORRUPTION IN NEW YORK
Push for a balanced budget. Covid-19 has shown the perils of an unbalanced budget as New York City faces bankruptcy, again. New York City must be fiscally instead of asking other states to bail it out. Cut unused or unnecessary programs and reallocate funds to education, policing, public works, and transit.
- ADDRESS THE GROWING HOMELESS CRISIS
Expand the existing capacity of New York City homeless shelters. Stop the use of hotels in residential neighborhoods as temporary housing facilities for the homeless. Evaluate the safety, and efficacy of the current state of New York’s homeless shelters. Employ the homeless as part of a larger city wide jobs guarantee program. Admit the homeless into a vocational jobs training program where they my learn skills to move into the private sector. Push for negotiated rental controls with landlords, renters and city government. Loosen city regulations to allow for the construction of affordable housing.
